I have not been able to find the original copy of John's record online. All I've found is the abstract listed above. It looks as if a search at FHC is needed.
4. On Jan 11, 1697 in Perquimans Precinct, John Oden "proved Six Rits for Six persons".
From 1663 -1729 there were eight Lords Proprietors of the Carolinas. In order to be granted a land headright (land patent):
- An application had to be filled out.
- Have the land surveyed. This is the land warrant.
- The surveyor turns in a plat map of the land.
- Land patent given for a sum of money.
